Steve Wilkos Biography

Born and raised in Chicago on March 9, 1964, Wilkos grew up in the Roscoe Village neighbourhood, the oldest of four children. His parents, Jeanette and Stanley, instilled in him a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility. After graduating from Lane Technical High School in 1982, Wilkos joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in South Korea, Japan, Illinois, Virginia, and South Carolina, before being honourably discharged in 1989.

Following his military service, Wilkos joined the Chicago Police Department in 1990. Over the course of his career, he was stationed in several neighbourhoods, including Logan Square, Humboldt Park, and the Near West Side. In 1994, while still a police officer, Wilkos was recruited by the producers of The Jerry Springer Show to work as a part-time security guard. He would go on to recruit several of his fellow officers for the job, and in 2001, he retired from the police force to work for the show full-time.

While best known for his work on The Jerry Springer Show, Wilkos has also made appearances on other shows, including Check, Please! and Dancing with the Stars. He even dabbled in professional wrestling for a time with the Maryland Championship Wrestling.

In 2007, NBC Universal Television announced that Wilkos would be getting his own talk show, which would premiere later that year. The Steve Wilkos Show would be based in Chicago and tackle tough issues like child abuse, molestation, and cheating partners. While initially dissatisfied with his performance, Wilkos has since found his voice and become known for his no-holds-barred approach to problem-solving.
