Michael Learned is an American actress, best known for her role as Olivia Walton in the long-running CBS drama series The Waltons.

For her role in The Waltons, she has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series three times. Her fourth win in the same category came for her role in the TV series, Nurse.

Michael Learned was born on April 9, 1939, to Elizabeth Duane “Betti” and Bruce Learned, a diplomat, in Washington, D.C.

She is the oldest of her parents’ six daughters and her younger sisters are; Gretl, Susan, Sabra, Dorit, and Philippa.

Her parents got divorced and her father remarried Cecilia Learned. Through their marriage, they had a child named Tarquin Learned. In addition, her father adopted three stepchildren named Ronald Gordon, Leslie Boisvert, and James Learned.
