On March 1, 1983, Matt Weiss was born in Cheshire, Connecticut. He graduated from Hopkins School in 2001 after attending the Connecticut school. He participated in both baseball and football for his high school, and in 2001, as the quarterback, he guided his team to a 12-0 record, a first for the institution and to the New England Prep School Class C championship.
Weiss then went to Vanderbilt University, where he majored in economics and human and organizational development and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. In 2008, he graduated from Stanford with a master’s in the liberal arts while working as a graduate assistant.
From 2001 through 2003, Matt Weiss served as the Vanderbilt Commodores’ third-string walk-on punter. Weiss joined the Vanderbilt football team during a tryout despite not having a football scholarship there.
However, throughout the years he was a student at the university, Weiss did not play in any games and was not listed on the final Sports Reference roster. Weiss played for the Vanderbilt Commodores, who had a 2-9 record in 2001, a 2-10 record in 2002, and a 2-10 record in 2003 under head coaches Bobby Johnson in 2002 and 2003 and Woody Windenhofer in 2001.
From 2005 through 2008, Weiss worked as a graduate assistant at Stanford University. In his last year at Stanford, he also served as the defensive and special teams assistant.
Matt Weiss returned to the University of Michigan in 2021 to serve as the quarterbacks coach for the school after a 12-year NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens. He is currently the co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Michigan Wolverines, who finished second in the 2021 college football rankings.
Between 2005 and 2008, Weiss worked at Stanford University as a graduate assistant in a variety of capacities. Weiss worked as an assistant defensive back in 2005, a linebackers assistant in 2006, and an assistant defensive line in 2007.
